Exercise is the physical exertion of the body that results in expenditure of energy, and that, in the long term, enhances or maintains fitness and health.

Physical activity is defined as Any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure above resting levels” (ACSM 2011).

For health benefits, MODERATE TO VIGOROUS INTENSE physical activity is recommended.

6. Sedentary behavior is defined as “any waking activity characterized by an energy expenditure ≤ 1.5 metabolic equivalents and a sitting or reclining posture”. It requires very low energy expenditure. (Sedentary Behaviour Research Network, 2012)

Recommendations of Exercise for Older persons?

a. Engage in any physical activity,

b. Must warm up and cool down,

c. Rest when you feel tired.
